Walking and Eating around Avignon

£9.00

Walks, excursions and recommended restaurants

by John & Pat Underwood

A guidebook to walking and eating in and around the French city of Avignon, featuring 10 walks and suggested excursions by train, bus and boat. Updated in May 2024, just weeks after a research trip, when all the routes, restaurants and transport details were checked and revised if necessary.

Besides Avignon, Nîmes and Arles, the book covers many other highlights: St-Rémy, Les Baux, the Alpilles, Barbentane, Gordes and the Pont du Gard (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) – all easily accessible by public transport.

All walks are mapped in detail and include restaurant suggestions and recipes.

We also feature plans of Avignon, Nîmes, Arles, and St-Rémy, as well as information on markets for those who are self-catering and free downloadable GPS tracks.

When to go: The best months for countryside walking in Provence are from late September till May. In summer it’s best to just stroll around the sights and sites using the large-scale town plans and enjoy eating out in Provence!

★★★★★ amazon review   ‘Just back from a week in Avignon where this little book proved an invaluable guide. Walking tours of Avignon, Arles and Nimes were all well-directed with excellent suggestions for things to see, places to eat. It’s full of really practical information that other guide books don’t bother with – such as how to work the parking ticket machine in the Nimes car park! Obviously written from a lot of personal experience and affection for the area.‘  Minty
